Squirt Blue Wins Bronze in Etobicoke
What started off with an innocent 8 am call to warm up for the first game, ended at 10 pm in the 9th inning of a 2.5 hour game!
We started off with a 5-2 victory over Milton, took out Topham Park 10-4 then took out Topham Park again 15-6 to finish the round robin 3-0.
Due to run differential, we ended up with the wild card spot. We had to play Etobicoke to determine who plays for gold. The last time we played them this year, Etobicoke won 8-0. We got an early 2-0 lead in the 3rd before Etobicoke clawed back to tie it in the 6th. The game went 7 innings where Etobicoke won 4-2.
The Battle for Bronze started just after 7:30. This is our 3rd game back to back. The girls were exhausted. We went from 13 players down to 10 due to injuries during the game against Etobicoke. Richmond Hill got off with a 4-2 start in the 1st and added another run to make it 5-2 in the second. The girls didn't give up and battled back. By the end of the 4th it was tied 6-6.
We took Bronze with a 3 run 9th to win 11-9, winning with the International Tie breaking rules in place. In total, we played 32 innings of softball over 5 games. Out of those 32 innings, Alison Williamson pitched 28 of them, teamed up with Ceileigh “Wheels” S behind the plate. Aly won the MVP, but Ceileigh is also deserving of an equal share of credit behind the Etobicoke Marathon.
Everyone - Dani, Dani, Mick, Mac, Sam, Kendra, Lauryne, Eliana, Rachel, Phoebe and Jessica - deserve an MVP award. Everyone played their heart out. Everyone contributed during the day to make it as far as we did.
We ended this tournament with a 4-1 record. The coaching staff and parents couldn't be more proud of Whitby Squirt Blue! GO WHITBY!
