What's New

Are You Hungry??

Boston Pizza LogoPerhaps you can help out WGSA as you cure that hunger by going to Boston Pizza (either Taunton Rd or AMC Plaza location).

Simply hang on to your receipt and give it to your coach and Boston Pizza will reimburse us 10% of your purchase! Help keep WGSA costs down by eating and remembering to KEEP THE RECEIPT. How easy can it get? (Note that this promotion applies to food purchases only.)

Hang on to your receipts. Tell your friends and neighbours to hang on to their receipts. You can turn them in when the season begins.

Remember to write your division and your team name on the back of the receipt. The team that submits the highest value of food receipts will win a pizza night at their last night of ball!

If you would like your association to join us, the following forms will be of interest:

Police Checks

PoliceAs part of our effort to ensure the safety of our members, your children, in all areas, the WGSA will again this year require a Police Check for all people who are involved with the children on a regular basis (the WGSA Executive, coaches, assistant coaches and regular team helpers). If you plan on participating this year, please ensure that you have a police check completed before you begin. (Why not do so now and avoid delays later on?) Since WGSA requires Police Checks annually, we will accept any Police Check dated at September of the previous year (in this case September 2007) as it would cover the whole 2008 softball season.

Please be advised that WGSA will not be able to provide reimbursement for the nominal fee that the police department charges for this check.

Thank you for helping us address the safety of all of our children.

Girls Rule!!!

OK, this is a rehearsed Gatorade commercial, but girls still rule!

Summer Experience Opportunity at Softball Ontario

Softball Ontario is happy to announce our participation in the Summer Experience Program 2008.  Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion, we are able to offer the opportunity to work as the Participation Program Assistant at the Softball Ontario office in North York.

The Participation Program Assistant will provide support to a variety of organizational initiatives related to the Participation Program, as well as additional duties related to the general administration of Softball Ontario.  Duties may include assisting with the administration of the Try Softball program, attending community events with the Community Fun Team, developing communications and marketing materials, responding to inquiries from the public regarding various initiatives, and general office work.

Applicants must have strong communication, organization and computer skills (including Microsoft Excel and Word).  Experience working with volunteers is an asset.  The position is ideal for students registered in Sports Administration, Sport Management, and Recreation & Leisure Studies Programs.  Previous involvement with the game of softball as a player or as a volunteer is an asset.

Those interested in applying for this seven (7) week position with Softball Ontario must be between the ages of 15 and 24, be an Ontario resident and be eligible to work in Canada.  The successful candidate will be required to have a police records check as part of the qualifications required for the position.

The Summer Experience Program 2008 allows Ontario youth to gain valuable work experience and continue to expand their knowledge and learning throughout the summer.  The Program is based on a 35-hour workweek and runs for seven (7) weeks; the wage rate is $8.75/hr for youth employed in the Summer Experience Program.

Submit your resume and cover letter to Softball Ontario by email to lcrompton@softballontario.ca or by fax to 416-426-7368 no later than 4:30 PM on Tuesday June 10, 2008.  Softball Ontario thanks all of those who apply; however only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

2008 Summer Softball Day Camp

Academy Baseball School LogoOnce again, the WGSA, with the Academy Baseball School, is pleased to offer a Summer Softball Camp opportunity to our registered players (Learn to Play through Novice divisions). The camp will be run out of Iroquois Sports Complex during the weeks of July 7-11 and July 14-18.

The regular camp fee is $160 per week, but the WGSA will fund $60 of this amount, so the net cost to registered players is only $100!

Each weekly program includes:

  • an instructional program from 9:30am to 3:30pm
  • T-shirt and visor
  • weekly skills evaluation
  • daily MVP and recognition awards
  • swimming, tennis and soccer games (non-instructional), and
  • indoor facilities for rainy days (instructional sessions continued).

Sign up for either or both weeks, but register early as space is limited. For more details contact WGSA President, Stacy Novack. To view the Summer Softball Camp registration form (in Adobe Acrobat, PDF, format), click here. Mailing information is on the form. Click here to visit the Academy Baseball School website.
